The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) intends to award a contract to a licensed telecommunications provider for the provision of services and equipment under The GMDSS Expansion Project to be funded by the Universal Service Fund (USF).
The project is for the supply and installation of a remote Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) transceiver in Union Island. This remote site will expand the coverage of the Coast Guard’s VHF communications system and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) to the southern Grenadines. Notwithstanding the terms of their License, existing telecommunications providers shall be eligible to bid for all projects under the USF.
Additionally, any other entity in St. Vincent and the Grenadines can tender a bid for the project but must acquire a license under the Telecommunications Act (Cap 418) of the Revised Laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines of 2009 before the contract can be awarded and executed.
